Vets Whole in One Clinic
02/28/2019 Recap
With enthusiastic attitudes and a willingness to learn, veterans arrived at The Lakes in El Segundo for a great day of mindfulness meditation and golf clinics. With light showers during the day, Vets Whole in One was determined to have a wonderful Experience
As Vets Whole in One is continuously working on hosting new tournaments and clinics, its great to see familiar faces among the veterans that participate. While any veteran is encouraged to participate in Vets Whole in One functions, its the returning veterans that keep the fire alive. Veterans are invited to events like this with hopes that they will find a balance in their life that helps them achieve mental clarity and peace. In order to help start the process, a mindfulness meditation session begins with meditation teacher Stephen Islas.
Vets Whole in One is grateful for the opportunity to provide veterans with the atmosphere to feel comfortable to focus on themselves. We are thankful for the hospitality of Scott Morgan and his team at “The Lakes in El Segundo” that help to make this environment such an enriching experience! Vets Whole in One would like to extend a major thanks to the 17 members of MVP (Merging Vets and Players) including Robert Simsø with Verdens Gang (a Norwegian tabloid newspaper), to our sponsors (insert sponsors names), participants, and volunteers for all of their help. It is work like this that is going to keep events like this continuing for years to come.
Starting Off Right With Meditation and Balance
Before diving into the techniques that can assist any golfer, mindfulness teacher Stephen Islas begins a meditation session inviting all to take a moment to appreciate the moment. The meditation classes are conducted prior to activity to help promote the ability to focus on a moment and put aside the distractions of life if only for a moment.
Once the mindfulness meditation session concludes, Vets Whole in One President and Pro Golfer Jim Dennerline describes in detail just how important focus is regarding the game of golf and how mindfulness meditation assists him on every game he plays. Where sometimes in life the worries and tasks begin to impede on thoughts, it is invited that veterans simply focus on 1 thing at a time.
Getting the Mechanics Down!
Before the veterans take the various stages around the course to begin honing in on some golfing mechanics, they are invited by the green by Scott Morgan to start with some stretching. The clinic was separated into 3 sections; chipping, putting and driving. Veterans were invited to go to the area that they felt most interested in to begin some basics in each of the areas.

Meditation, Golfing and Food
The 3 ingredients that best describe a Vets Whole in One event are essential to providing a serene atmosphere for veterans who are looking for ways to transition back to civilian life. With the amazing staff of The Lakes in El Segundo providing a lunch buffet for the veterans and participants in this clinic, a feeling of comfort surrounded the room as Vets Whole in One prepared to give prizes to all participants through a raffle!
Time For The Giveaways!
A tremendous heart filled thanks goes out to Callaway Golf for their generous donation that helps to ensure every veteran goes home with something to remember their experience with. With contributions from other companies including California Pizza Kitchen and The Lakes in El Segundo, we are able to help ensure the entire Vets Whole in One experience is rewarding both mentally and physically for every veteran who attends.
